Porcelain Crowns View Photos

A crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size.  A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.

There are several types of crowns, all-porcelain (tooth colored crowns) and porcelain fused to gold crowns.  They both are extremely popular, because they resemble your natural teeth.  All porcelain crowns are composed entirely of porcelain and highly durable and will last many years.  Porcelain fused to gold are made of a gold coping with porcelain built up to cover the gold lining.  This adds strength and durability to the restoration.   All our crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile.  We will be glad to discuss with you the different kinds of crowns and when and where they would be most applicable.

Reasons for crowns:

  • Broken or fractured teeth.
  • Cosmetic enhancement.
  • Decayed teeth.
  • Fractured fillings.
  • Large fillings.
  • Tooth has a root canal.

What does getting a crown involve?

A crown procedure usually requires several appointments.  Your first appointment will include preparing the underlying tooth structure that will support the crown.  A custom provisional (temporary) crown will then be made to allow the tooth and tissue to heal.  At the second appointment, several highly accurate molds (or impressions)  will be taken in order to create your custom crown.    In approximately two weeks  your new crown will be fabricated by one of our highly acclaimed laboratories and ready for insertion.

You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your new crown.
