A crown is a covering that encases the entire tooth surface restoring it to its original shape and size. A crown protects and strengthens tooth structure that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations.
Although there are several types of crowns, all-porcelain (tooth colored crown) and porcelain fused to gold crowns. They are both extremely popular because they resemble your natural teeth. All-porcelain crowns are composed of a tooth colored zirconia core and porcelain is built up to cover the core. Porcelain fuse to gold are made of a gold coping with porcelain built up to cover the gold lining. This adds strength and durability to the restoration. All our crowns are made to match the shape, size, and color or your teeth giving you a natural, long-lasting beautiful smile. We will be glad to discuss with you the different kinds of crowns and when and where they would be most applicable.
Reasons for crowns:
What does getting a crown involve?
A crown procedure usually requires several appointments. Your first appointment will include preparing the underlying tiith structure that will support the crown. A custom provisional (temporary) crown will then be made to allow the tooth and tissue to heal. At the second appointment, several highly accurate molds (or impressions) will be taken in order to create your custom crown. In approximately two weeks, your new crown will be fabricated by one of our highly acclaimed dental laboratories and ready for insertion.
You will be given care instructions and encouraged to have regular dental visits to check your new crown.
